Etched Behind Eyelids | January 2019
Minou is going through a phase of sleeping on our pillows at night, so I gave her her own by way of compromise. It means that we don’t wake up with a headache from dehydration, and she seems happy too.
On a very cold day at the start of January I found kitty napping on the hot pipes at the Botanical Gardens. Meanwhile, in the parrot house, a mischief of mice were busy at work climbing up the wall and squeezing themselves through the tiny mesh gaps to pinch grain from the yellow crested cockatoo’s food bowl.
On the canal down by the Vale at 8pm, a narowboat restaurant floats gently on the foggy waters back towards the city centre. Each of the tables is set with a flickering candle while at the front of the boat a group of friends catch up with one another over a mid-week meal out.10th January 2019 // From my observations notebook
I’ve started to keep a notebook of observations from my everyday life. It’s for inspiration for my drawing and painting as well as for writing practice. The book is a little Muji passport sized dotted notebook and I write in pencil because I worry I’ll ‘mess it up’ if I write in pen. Old perfectionist habits die hard.
Late afternoon winter light is magical in its own way. To me nothing compares to May and June, but I try to appreciate the beauty in these dead, grey, depressing months too.
I’ve started filming more video clips from my everyday life. Since I started filming weddings for work a couple of years ago I rarely film my own life, so I’m trying to make more of a conscious effort to film little clips here and there to turn into monthly films. This is the first of them.
Mentioned in the video: How to turn your handwriting into a font.
